法國人米歇爾 - 德 - 諾查丹瑪斯 Nostradamus於1503年12月14日出生在法國普羅旺斯，是舉世聞名的大預言家。在其著作《諸世紀》(Centuries) 預言集中預言詩：
L'an mil neuf cens nonante neuf sept mois
Du ciel viendra grand Roy deffrayeur
Resusciter le grand Roy d'Angoumois
Avant après Mars régner par bonheur
The year 1999 seven months
From the sky will come the great King of Terror.

這個譯法未必是最精確，事實上，不同的諾查特拉瑪斯研究者對這首詩都有不同詮釋方法，但不管如何詮釋，從字面上來看，此詩怎樣也不可能說是好。再加上諾查特拉瑪斯甚少在他的預言中明列日期，於此詩一反常態，可見其中嚴重性。

Cheetham's version:
Beasts wild with hunger will cross the rivers,
The greater part of the battle will be against Hitler.

Randi's version:

Most of the army will be against the Lower Danube.
The great one shall be dragged in an iron cage
When the child brother will observe nothing.

希斯特HISTER與希特拉HITLER酷似，而最後一句點明是德國。據說在一九三九年間，希特勒本人看出這是對自己的預言，於 是廣為宣傳，以樹立其個人威望。

在諾查丹瑪斯《諸世紀》（Centuries）的這首詩中，“新城市”被認為指的是紐約——美國世界貿易中心位於紐約的金融中心 曼哈頓區，是美國乃至全球金融中樞。其主體建築是兩座並立的110層的雙子大廈，高411.48米，是紐約的最高建築。與自由女神遙遙相對，並稱紐約的標 誌，也是紐約人的驕傲。2001年9月11日的清晨象往常一樣，在和煦的陽光下，有些人已早早來到紐約世貿中心上班。沒有人會沒有想到幾分鐘後天大的災難會突然降臨。
